The Rêve experience, step by step
Arrival
You are greeted by name and shown to your private dressing room, where a fresh robe, slippers, and a traditional pestemal (the thin Turkish bath wrap) are waiting. You're offered cool water, dates, and a moment to settle. There is no front desk hurry, no clipboard. The pace begins here.
Preparation
Your attendant (your natır) leads you into the warm marble chamber. The room is gently heated, the air humid, the lighting low. You lie face up on the heated central marble. For the first ten minutes, nothing is asked of you. The heat opens your pores. Your breath slows. This is the body's pause.
The kese exfoliation
Your natır begins the kese, a rough woven mitt drawn across the skin in firm, rhythmic strokes. It removes layers of dead skin you didn't know you were carrying. The sensation is more vigorous than a facial, less than a sports massage. Most first-time guests are surprised by how much comes off, and how soft the skin underneath feels.
The foam massage
A large cloth pouch filled with warm olive-oil soap is whipped through the air, creating clouds of foam that are layered over your entire body. Your natır works the foam into the skin in long, slow strokes. This is the part guests describe as transcendent, being fully covered in soft warmth while expert hands move across the body in a centuries-old rhythm.
The rinse
Warm water is poured generously over you in copper bowls, a final cleansing in the traditional manner. Your hair is washed. You sit up slowly. You step into a fresh, dry pestemal. The transition out of the warm chamber is deliberate; the body does not like sudden changes in temperature, and the ritual respects that.
The resting room
You are walked to a quiet resting room, wrapped in dry linen, offered Turkish tea or chilled water with fresh mint. This is when the body's deep work begins: the parasympathetic nervous system fully takes over, cortisol drops, the mind becomes still. Many guests stay here for thirty minutes or more. Your skin feels like nothing you've felt before. So, often, does your mind.

A few quiet customs
What sixty minutes in the hammam does
For your skin
The kese removes layers of dead cells that body brushes and home exfoliants don't reach. Guests describe a luminous, silken texture that lasts three to five days. The ritual also prepares the skin to absorb subsequent treatments, moisturizers, serums, and other Rêve services land deeper.
For your nervous system
Sustained humid heat combined with rhythmic touch is one of the most reliable ways to shift the body from sympathetic (alert) to parasympathetic (rest) state. Many guests report deeper sleep that night and lower stress for several days. This is the part of the ritual that's hard to describe and easy to miss until you've felt it.
For your circulation
The combination of heat-induced vasodilation and the manual stimulation of the kese supports circulation and lymphatic flow throughout the body. Guests with mild puffiness or post-travel swelling often see visible reduction the same day.

Frequently asked questions
A Turkish bath, or hammam, is a guided wellness ritual that takes place in a heated marble chamber. It originated in Roman bathhouses, was refined during the Ottoman Empire, and has been continuously practiced for over 1,500 years. The ritual combines radiant heat, deep exfoliation with a special mitt called a kese, a full-body foam massage, a warm rinse, and a quiet resting period. At Rêve, the full experience lasts about 60 minutes in a private suite.
You're shown to a private dressing room and given a pestemal (a traditional thin wrap). You then move to the warm marble chamber, where you lie on a heated central platform. Your attendant (your natır) performs a vigorous full-body exfoliation with the kese mitt, followed by a generous foam massage, a warm rinse, and a hair wash. You then move to a quiet resting room for tea and recovery time. The full sequence takes about 60 minutes.
At Rêve, you wear disposable undergarments (we provide them) and the pestemal (a traditional Turkish bath wrap) throughout the entire ritual. You are fully covered at all times. The experience is modest by design and the warm chamber is built around your privacy.
No. At Rêve, guests wear disposable undergarments and the pestemal throughout the experience. You are fully covered at all times. This is true to the tradition of the modern hammam, which has always been a modest practice.
They share roots but diverged centuries ago. A Moroccan hammam typically uses black soap (savon noir) and ghassoul clay applied in a steam-room environment, with the exfoliation done after the soap softens the skin. A Turkish bath is built around the heated marble göbektaşı and uses the kese mitt for exfoliation before the foam massage. The Turkish ritual is generally longer, more architectural, and more focused on the central marble platform as the heart of the experience.
Yes, the kese exfoliation removes layers of dead skin that home exfoliants don't reach. Guests typically report a noticeable glow that lasts three to five days, smoother texture, and improved skin clarity. The combination of heat, exfoliation, and the warm rinse also primes the skin to absorb moisturizers and serums more effectively. Wellness statements have not been evaluated by the FDA; individual results vary.
The active ritual at Rêve takes 60 minutes. Many guests also spend additional time in the resting room afterward, often 20 to 45 minutes. We recommend planning for a 90-minute to two-hour visit total, so you're not rushing back into the world.
Most guests visit once a month or once every six weeks. The kese exfoliation is deep, and the skin benefits from rebuilding its natural barrier between sessions. Some guests visit weekly during stressful periods or before major events. Less than once every two months still delivers benefits but won't compound the way a regular cadence does.
Yes. Rêve offers private couples suites. Your space is fully reserved for you and your guest. Same-sex couples, opposite-sex couples, friends, mothers and daughters, and other pairings all use the couples suites. Whatever the relationship, the privacy is the same.
We don't recommend the Modern Turkish Bath during pregnancy without your physician's clearance. The combination of sustained heat and full-body exfoliation isn't appropriate for most pregnant guests. If you're newly postpartum or planning ahead, our team can discuss your timing.
Don't shave or wax for 24 hours beforehand, the kese is significantly gentler on unshaved skin. Eat lightly in the few hours before your visit. Hydrate well. Arrive 15 minutes early to settle into the dressing room. Leave jewelry at home.
Drink water throughout the rest of the day. Apply a fragrance-free, gentle moisturizer that evening. Avoid direct sun exposure for 24 hours, your skin is freshly exposed and more sensitive. Avoid harsh actives (retinoids, acids) for two to three days. Sleep early if you can.
Yes, the Turkish bath pairs especially well with halotherapy, red light therapy, and IV therapy. We recommend doing the bath first, as the skin and nervous system are most receptive to other treatments after the ritual. Our front desk team can build you a sequenced visit if you'd like.
A sauna is a passive experience: you sit, you sweat, you leave. The Modern Turkish Bath is a guided ritual, heated marble, expert attendant, full-body exfoliation, foam massage, warm rinse, and a quiet transition out. The heat is one element of many, and the experience is built around being cared for, not just enduring heat. If you're looking for a sauna specifically, our affiliated Pilates studio Rêve Body downstairs in our building has one available to their members.
